There are checkered floors, street-lamp fixtures, and velvet chairs pulled up to cushioned banquettes. A cream-colored dining room has a bar set in front of the windows, so the people sitting there look straight out at North Main Street. Deepwell, the New Orleans-inspired steakhouse at 185 N. Main St., opened on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026. Less than four weeks later, the next downtown opening is close behind. On South Broad Street, a brewery and a distillery that share one renovated building have passed every inspection and are down to their last state paperwork.
Taken together, the two projects change how a downtown Mooresville evening fits together. North Main now has a destination dinner whose bar faces the street. South Broad is about to get a taproom built around neighbors coming back again and again. And each place has a different kind of limit on when you can show up.
The Kindreds Brought a Second Room to Main Street
Deepwell comes from chef Joe Kindred and Katy Kindred, who also own Kindred and Hello, Sailor, along with Milkbread and Albertine. When the project was announced in May, Lake Norman Publications reported that it would go into the former JJ Wasabi's at Main Street and Moore Avenue. It also named Chef Craig Deihl as lead chef and co-owner. The timing caught Davidson's attention. When Deepwell opened, the Observer noted that Kindred in Davidson still had not reopened after a fire.
Axios Charlotte got a look inside before opening. It described about 4,000 square feet in a historic Main Street building, plus a 1,500-square-foot patio and a 24-seat private dining room with its own bar and wine storage. Windows look into the curing and dry-aging room, so the steaks and house-made charcuterie are on display.
According to the Charlotte Observer's opening report, the menu looks like this:
- To start: smoky redfish dip with brown butter Saltines, or NOLA BBQ Shrimp with sourdough and lemon, plus cured meats and aged cheeses
- Mains: prime brisket with collard greens, Sea Island red peas and the couple's signature milk bread, and a crispy NC flounder filet with pomme purée and peekytoe crab butter
- Large format: a long list of big steaks, dry-aged whole NC-style BBQ duck, and smoked NC fish on the half shell
- Dessert: wood-fired milk bread with Cheerwine caramel sauce and sweet cream ice cream, plus chocolate cake and key lime cheesecake
The cocktail list includes classics and drinks built to match the menu, alongside wine, beer and spirit-free options.
The Bar That Faces the Social District
How Deepwell seats people matters more for a downtown evening than anything on the menu. Its indoor-outdoor bar opens onto the patio and into downtown Mooresville's social district. Bar seats and walk-in tables are first come, first served. Only the main dining room takes reservations.
That split tells you how much people wanted in. The night before Deepwell opened, the first open reservation for two was Oct. 14 at 8:30 p.m., about four weeks out. The wait for a table will move up and down. The way seating works will stay the same. If you plan ahead, you get the dining room through Resy. If you decide the same day, you try the bar and the high tops.
A bar that opens onto the social district makes Deepwell part of the street. You can start or end an evening there without making it the whole evening.
Deepwell's posted hours shape what that looks like:
| Day | Hours |
|---|---|
| Monday–Tuesday | Closed |
| Wednesday–Thursday | 5–9 p.m. |
| Friday–Saturday | 5–10 p.m. |
| Sunday | 5–9 p.m. |
With no lunch service, Deepwell is an evening-only anchor. That leaves the daytime on Moore Avenue and North Main to places that are already open.
South Broad's Opening Depends on Paperwork Now
At 275 S. Broad St., Churchill Brothers Brewing and RudeDog Distillery have spent about a year renovating one building together. They now have their certificate of occupancy after passing all required inspections. Lake Norman Publications reported on Oct. 7, 2026 that the last steps are with the North Carolina Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission. No opening date has been announced. The Churchill Brothers site says "SOON 2026," and RudeDog's says "Opening 2026." The online beer list is still in the works.
Brothers Joel and Nick Churchill founded the brewery. Joel brews. He started homebrewing more than 20 years ago and later worked at a local brewery. Nick runs the business side, and Jamie Churchill helps develop recipes. The family says it will support local businesses and use local ingredients when it can. "Our goal is simple: brew beer worth sharing," the team said when it announced the brewery.
RudeDog's story is pure Mooresville. Dave "Rudy" Rudy started racing as a teenager in Wisconsin and later became operations director for the Richard Petty Driving Experience in Georgia. Racing brought his family to Mooresville in 2004, and they have lived here ever since. He got into distilling after a chance visit to a moonshine festival, where he met distillers Tony Perry and Darrell "Uncle Dum Dum" Flack. Both became his mentors. His wife and co-founder, Sheri Rudy, handles the creative side, from flavor ideas and product names to branding and merchandise.
Both families describe a place where "regulars become familiar faces." That gives downtown's southern end a counterweight to Deepwell. Deepwell asks you to plan weeks ahead. South Broad is pitching a place you can drop into without planning.
How the Two Ends Connect
With a new anchor on each end, the places that were already there become the links between them. The Downtown Mooresville Commission's directory lists Summit Coffee at 107 E. Moore Ave. and High Branch Brewing at 252 N. Main St., both on the Deepwell end of downtown. To the south, Florence Wine & Beer Garden at Merino Mill, 518 S. Church St., held its grand opening on Oct. 7, 2025. That puts its first anniversary this month.
Here's what's confirmed for each stop as of Oct. 10, 2026:
| Stop | Address | Status | Confirmed detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summit Coffee | 107 E. Moore Ave. | Open | Listed in the downtown directory |
| Deepwell | 185 N. Main St. | Opened Sept. 16, 2026 | Dinner Wednesday–Sunday; walk-in bar |
| High Branch Brewing | 252 N. Main St. | Open | Listed in the downtown directory |
| Churchill Brothers Brewing and RudeDog Distillery | 275 S. Broad St. | Certificate of occupancy; NC ABC steps pending | No announced date |
| Florence Wine & Beer Garden | 518 S. Church St., Merino Mill | Open since October 2025 | Italian food, wine and craft beer |
Put these stops in order and you get a sequence that didn't exist last fall. It runs from coffee on Moore Avenue, to a bar seat at Deepwell or a pint at High Branch, and then south. Once the South Broad taproom opens, the southern end of downtown gets its own place to start or finish the evening, and Merino Mill sits just past it.
What's Further Out
The same Oct. 7 roundup lists one more Mooresville project to note, though not plan around. The View Beer Garden & Sports Lounge is coming to 155 Pinnacle Lane, where Apps & Taps closed two years ago. It plans waterfront dining and live entertainment, but no opening date has been released. That puts it in the same spot the South Broad building was in a year ago: announced, under way, and not yet on the map.
Downtown is ahead of it. Deepwell is serving five nights a week on North Main, and South Broad has finished construction and inspections. Its opening now depends on the state.
If dinner on North Main or a bar seat at Deepwell is part of how you picture life in Mooresville, the Owning Lake Norman team can show you which streets put downtown nearby. Schedule your private consultation, and we'll map the evening along with the home.
